Camp Knutson Waterfront

Mission and History

“Camp Knutson is dedicated to nurturing the well-being of persons with special needs in a setting which celebrates God’s love for community and creation.”

During summer months (June through August) Camp Knutson is an accepting and nurturing camp environment for children with special needs.

Each year, the camp serves:

  • Children with Skin Disease
  • Children with Autism
  • Children with Down Syndrome
  • Children with Heart Diseases
  • Families with a member(s) affected by, or infected with, HIV/AIDS

The camp was donated in 1953 by Minnesota Congressman Harold Knutson to be used as a summer retreat for "neglected, unfortunate, deprived and handicapped children."

For over 50 years, thousands of children have taken part in the summer programs offered at Camp Knutson. Over the years, others who have been touched by Harold Knutson’s vision continue to support, sustain and improve Camp Knutson for the future.

Camp Knutson is a service of Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota.

Camp Partners

Campers are enrolled at the camp through partner groups and associations who work in collaboration with the Camp Knutson staff to provide specialized care and camp curriculum for their campers’ needs.
