Jodi Harpstead

Chief Executive Officer

Jodi Harpstead became the Chief Executive Officer of Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota (LSS) September 2, 2011.

On July 1, 2012, LSS assumed management of operations at Children's Home Society of Minnesota, making Harpstead also CEO of Children's Home and uniting their two adoption services. The two combine a rich tradition, passion and common mission to find loving families for children who need them.

From May 2007 to September 2011, Jodi Harpstead was the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota (LSS), where she lead efforts in Services, Human Resources, Information Technology and Finance. With over 2,300 employees, LSS offers a broad array of community services for people of all ages throughout Minnesota, including housing and crisis shelters, mental health counseling, adoption, financial counseling, senior nutrition, foster care and services for persons with disabilities.

Ask her why she believes LSS is so successful in sustaining a rich tradition of support for people in need, and she’ll say, “We work with compassion and competence. First we need the compassion to serve the neighbor, and to be with them through whatever they are struggling or walking through. Then we need to have the competence to make a difference, so that our clients' lives are enhanced by walking with us in a way that makes a difference.”

A native of the Chicago area, Jodi received a Master of Business Administration degree in Finance and a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Michigan State University in East Lansing before settling in Minnesota. Jodi first came to LSS in 2004 to serve as its Chief Advancement Officer as LSS was kicking off the Movement of Hope capital campaign. The transformational Center for Changing Lives was the result, opening its doors in 2009. "The Center embodies so much of who LSS is. It is centered in a neighborhood and dedicated to serving the neighbor, serving with partners, and dedicated to an outcome: changing lives. Our commitment is that everyone who encounters The Center will have their life changed. Whether they are the people who are traditionally receive services from us, or traditionally offer services for us- all lives will be changed.”

Prior to joining LSS, Jodi spent 23 years with Medtronic, Inc. where held several key positions, including president of Global Marketing and U.S. Sales in the Cardiac Rhythm Management Division.
